Tax Evasion Blues

This is a song I wrote as a dedication to Willie Nelson and Daryl Strawberry. I find myself constantly amazed by entertainers or sports figures who are multi-millionaires who end up broke because they haven't paid their taxes in about 5 or 6 years.

I know they have people on the payroll who handle their money for them, so they are not intimately involved with every single finanacial transaction, but give me a break! I believe I would be aware of whether or not I had paid my ever lovin' taes!

The thing that suprises me even more is the IRS's position ( yes I chose that word carefully ) througout the whole ordeal. I mean, where were they this whole 5 or 6 years? Didn't they think to maybe remind these guys? I wonder how long it would take for them to get my attention if I forgot to pay my taxes? Oh about a nano-second I would think.

Since you've gone and left me, I've got the tax evasion blues
Since you've gone and left me, I've got the tax evasion blues
if you don't come back and let me deduct you,
my accountant might leave me to

We had joint IRA's and interest bearing accounts
we had piles of cash tucked away in obscene amounts

CHORUS

We had Visa and Master Card at rates so low
we had enough plastic cash to choke a water buffalo

CHORUS

The days since you've been gon have really put me to the test
the Lord above has got my soul, but Uncle Sam has got the rest
